Great Discussion & Great Questions

Hi there!
I hope you had a good week. Tuesday was the first JC Menopause Meet Up. Thanks to everyone who showed up. It was great seeing all of you. If you couldn’t make it, I hope you’ll join us on April 8th at 6:30.
Tina Tang from Ironstrong Fitness will be the guest speaker. We’ll be discussing osteopenia and osteoporosis which are common in post menopause but actually start when we’re in our thirties. We’ll talk about prevention strategies including strength training. It’s going to be fun and informative and a great discussion. Please be sure to come and bring your friends! Ike I always say, you don’t need to do menopause alone.
We had a lively meet up and touched on all sorts of menopause topics. The theme was “It’s Your Menopause” meaning that every woman will experience menopause differently and her menopause experience will be unique to her. Here’s a recap of some of the things we talked about.
· What is menopause and why we probably should be more focused on perimenopause.
· Resources that are accurate and helpful.
· How to find a menopause certified doctor and why this is so important.
· How to navigate postpartum and menopause. Yes, they can coincide.
· Why it’s time to change the narrative around menopause.
There was more and we’ll dive deeper into some of these topics at other meetings. I’m excited. I think we have the beginning of a supportive menopause community. Let’s keep it growing.
If you have topics you’d like to discuss, reply to this email. I’m still working on the line up of speakers.
Here’s something fun to take you into your weekend. Did you know that today is Pi Day? What is Pi Day you ask? Pi Day celebrates the ratio of the circumference of a circle. The number is known as 3.14 or π. For those of you who are not mathematically inclined (me), then Pi Day becomes Pie Day and an excuse to bake and eat pies. As a nutritionist my advice is to use your 20% and indulge. Remember last week’s newsletter about food needing to be fun? I give you permission.
Have a great week!
Be well,
Laura

And more...
· I’ve never made this before, but it looks yummy, so in honor of Pi Day I’m baking this. If you try it, we can compare notes.
· Do you feel guilty when you’re not productive 24/7? What if I told you that doing nothing with friends is actually good for you? Check out this article.
· A little nutrition note. Salmon is a great source of protein and omega 3 fatty acids (the good fat). Did you know that all farmed salmon is dyed pink? Fresh salmon is naturally pink but farmed salmon is not. Choose wisely.
