Oprah Talking Menopause

Hi there!

I didn’t catch the Oprah special, “The Menopause Revolution” on Monday but I did watch it later. It’s on Hulu and I watched it twice! If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it. In the meantime, I’m going to give you a little recap here.

In true Oprah fashion it was a conversation. She had some guests with her, including Halle Berry, Naomi Watts, Dr. Marie Claire Haver and Maria Shriver. And she had people in the audience share their stories. It was very powerful.

There were plenty of take-aways. The main one was that women are no longer going to suffer in silence. We are no longer going to be ignored and invisible. We need to educate ourselves. If your doctor isn’t answering your questions or concerns, find another doctor. You can find a menopause specialized doctor at The North American Menopause Society.

Menopause affects every cell of your body from your brain to your vagina. Menopause information is available, and it gives us power!

Here are some eye-opening statistics:

· The average age for menopause is 51.

· Women of color experience menopause 18 months earlier and their symptoms last longer.

· 2 out of 3 Alzheimer’s patients are women. Seek treatment as soon as you have your first menopause symptom.

· Menopause symptoms cause American women to lose $2 Billion of pay annually.

· 6000 women in the US go into menopause every day!

It’s time to change the conversation. Let’s take menopause from dirty to flirty!
