Calories are Personal

Hi There!
This is going to be short. I’ve been working on my free webinar, Reading Nutrition Food Labels. I’m planning on offering it on Tuesday, September 24th at 7:00 pm EST. So, mark your calendar. More details coming soon.
Every time I work on something like this, I end up going down a rabbit hole. This time was no different.
I know that when people look at nutrition food labels, they zero in on the calories. Do you?
Calories are very personal. 2000 calories per day is the standard that is used on packaged foods and by many dieticians. But that doesn’t mean that you should eat 2000 calories per day. Maybe you have a high metabolism and need to eat more or, like many women in menopause, your metabolism has slowed down, and you need to eat less.
Michael Phelps ate 13,000 calories a day when he was training for the Olympics! That was the correct number for him. Ike I said, calories is personal.
In case you’re wondering what calorie are…Calories are a measure of heat. They indicate how fast food turns into energy.
Don’t stress or obsess about the number of calories you consume. Think more about eating a balanced meal with a good balance of protein, fat and carbs. And make sure you include lots of antioxidants. That means your plate should be colorful.
Join me in September and learn more about the information that’s included on a nutrition food label. Reading these labels is probably one of the easiest ways to take control of your health. And it’s free info. You just need to know how to decipher it and that’s where this free class comes in.
Enjoy these last days of summer. Be sure to visit your Farmer’s Market and take advantage of the wonderful food that is still in season.
Next week I’ll send you a recipe using the last of the summer veggies. Perfect for the end of August.
Be well,
Laura
And more...
It’s the end of summer and it feels like everyone is away. I’m spending time catching up with friends.
· I met an old friend, and we walked the Highline. It’s expanded since the last time I was there. We started at 33rd street and walked to 14th. The plantings were beautiful and there was some interesting artwork.
· Saw a play off Broadway. Much cheaper than the big Broadway shows and just as much talent. Try Todaytix for discounts to shows.
· Vacations are great for recharging and reconnecting and having fun. Here’re some ways to extend the magic.
