Is Your Doctor Ghosting You?

Hi there!

Have you ever had someone just disappear from your life? You thought you were friends and suddenly they stopped talking to you and don’t return texts or phone calls. Whoosh – gone! Disappeared out of your life without any warning.

This is bad when it’s someone you considered a friend but when it’s your doctor, it’s unprofessional and totally unacceptable.

And yet… this happens so often to women in perimenopause and menopause.

Have you ever experienced any of the following:

· You ask your doctor why you’re suddenly having trouble sleeping. He hands you a pamphlet on sleep and say, “Welcome to middle age.”

· You haven’t had your period in 8 months and suffering from brain fog and fatigue. You talk to your doctor. She says, “You’re not really in menopause and therefore not a candidate for hormone replacement. It will go away.”

· You are gaining weight for no apparent reason and your doctor says, “Maybe you should go on a diet and exercise more.”

This is just a small sample of unacceptable answers doctors have given my friends and clients as they are try to navigate perimenopause and menopause.

If your doctor is ghosting you, find a new doctor! You need someone who listens, understands and supports you.

Start by asking your friends if they can recommend a doctor. Or ask me by replying to this email.

You can also go online to the North American Menopause Society. They have lots of information and keep a database of menopause certified doctors that have the knowledge you need.

Don’t be ghosted by your doctor!

If you know someone who needs to hear this, please forward this email to her. Thank you for spreading the word.

Be well,

Laura

And more...

· I found out I had a stress fracture on my toe! It’s more annoying than painful but I’m taking my doctor’s advice and not doing my power walks for the rest of the month. To fill in, I’m doing water aerobics. It’s fun and a lot harder than I imagined, especially swimming with a weight in one hand! (it’s a foam weight, but still…)

· Staying with the water theme, I saw a movie that I highly recommend. It’s about the first woman to swim the English Channel. She was 22 and the year was 1926. Believe it or not – women were not allowed to swim at that time. It was undignified. You can catch it on Disney +. The movie is “The Young Woman and the Sea.” Let me know what you think.

· I have added an archive page to my website so you can read past issues of my newsletters.
