Hearts + A Valentine Recipe

Jersey City

February 14, 2025

Hi there!

Happy Valentine’s Day! Isn’t it great there’s a day dedicated to love? And it doesn’t matter whether you’re partnered up or not because it’s about love and that includes self-love.

At the moment, I’m OMO and I plan to indulge in some quality “me” time. I’ll start my day with yoga, followed by a nice leisurely breakfast. Then I’ll make Chocolate Seeded Bark (the recipe is below) because Valentine’s and chocolate are the perfect match. I’ll also snuggle up with a good book. And I might make time for a mani-pedi. You may call it indulgence. I call it self-care. It’s fun and keeps my heart healthy.

Did you know that February is American Heart Month? It’s scientifically proven that making time for self-care keeps your heart healthy. So self-care should be a priority. It isn’t an indulgence. It’s good for your heart and your health.

Unfortunately, heart disease is the #1 cause of death in women. More women die of heart disease than of breast cancer!

Here are some steps you can take to keep your heart healthy:

  1. Eat a heart-healthy diet. The Mediterranean Diet is heart friendly.

  2. Get active and move your body.

  3. Quit smoking and stay away from secondhand smoke.

  4. Drink alcohol in moderation.

  5. Manage stress. Deep breathes – Yoga – Time Outside

  6. Get 7 to 9 hours of sleep.

Did you notice that these steps are the same ones you should take to lower your menopause symptoms? That’s because heart disease is a symptom of menopause.

Have a happy Valentine’s Day!

Be well,

Laura
