Sunny With a Chance of Smiles
Jersey City
May 24, 2024
Hi there!
Isn’t it interesting how a little sunshine improves your mood? It’s a real thing and scientifically proven. Exposure to sunlight causes the brain to release serotonin, the hormone that lifts your mood. It also increases a feeling of calm and helps you to become more focused.
This weekend is the unofficial beginning of summer which means there will be many more sunny and feel-good days ahead.
Menopause can mess with your mood. As a result, you may feel anxious, moody, or maybe even depressed.
If you’re feeling out of sorts, talk to your doctor. Help is available.
Whether or not you see your doctor, there are some things that you can do to improve your mood and start feeling better.
For starters, get some sun! Take a walk outside. Sit in a sunny outdoor café. Try to get your desk in the sunny corner of your room. Soak in some vitamin D!
And speaking of vitamin D, there are some foods that can improve your mood.
Eating foods with omega-3 fatty acids and food that are high in B vitamins helps with mood swings and anxiety. Also stay away from ultra-processed foods and go easy on the sugar.
Omega-3 fatty acids are found in avocados, olive oil, flax seeds and flaxseed oil, walnuts and salmon. Be sure to include those in your diet.
Vitamin B is made up of a group of 12 different nutrients. They are usually found in the same foods. If you are taking supplements, you will notice that they are listed individually on the label. They are water soluble, so your body doesn’t hold onto them. You will pee them out and will need to replenish them. You can get your vitamin Bs from lean red meat, chicken, eggs, shellfish, and nuts.
If you need help incorporating these nutrients into your diet, a customized meal plan could be helpful.
Be well,
Laura
